Breastfeeding Tips Every Mom Should Know — According to WHO
8/10/2025
Start within the first hour after birth
Start breastfeeding immediately to provide colostrum, which boosts immunity and protects against infections.
Exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months
Offer only breast milk—no water, formula, or solid foods—unless medically advised. This supports healthy growth and development.
Continue breastfeeding with complementary foods up to 2 years or beyond
After six months, introduce soft, age-appropriate foods while continuing breastfeeding for long-term health benefits.
Eat well and stay hydrated
Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. Drink plenty of water to support milk production.
Avoid harmful substances
Do not smoke or drink alcohol. Always consult your doctor before taking any medications, as substances can pass through breast milk.
Ask for support when needed
If you experience challenges like low milk supply, pain, or mastitis, seek help from healthcare providers or lactation consultants.
