International Childhood Cancer Day
International Childhood Cancer Day is celebrated annually on the 15th of February in aims of supporting cancer stricken children and raising awareness about childhood cancer and its symptoms.
Kurdistan Save the Children continues to manage the Children with Cancer Program (ARA to provide social and psychological support to cancer-stricken children and their families at cancer hospitals in Sulaimani, Erbil and Duhok.
Kurdistan Save the Children conducted an awareness campaign in support of the day in Sulaimani, Erbil and Duhok.
* In Sulaimani the campaign took place at Majdi Mall where brochures and posters on childhood cancer were distributed to the public and a number of (dance, music and theater) performances were conducted by 100 child beneficiaries at KSC’s Children’s Cultural Centers (Sara, Chwarta, and Sarshaqam). Special thanks to KSC volunteers and Majdi Mall.
* In Erbil the campaign took place at a number of different places. It started with the opening of an art gallery for 2 cancer stricken children at Hiwa Hospital and the opening of a handcrafts exhibition at Ishik University with the help of KSC volunteers and Ishik University. On the same day, the campaign continued at Family Mall where brochures and leaflets concerning childhood cancer and its symptoms were distributed.
* In Duhok, KSC conducted a number of art activities for the cancer stricken children at Zhin Center with the assistance of Duhok’s Health Directorate and Zhin Center with the participation of 3 TV stars. At the end of the event gifts were distributed to the children.
