Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day is observed on the 14th of February annually with the primary purpose of raising awareness on congenital heart defects (CHD) and supporting families whose children suffer from heart defects. #CHD is one of the most common birth defects.
The high prevalence of congenital heart defects amongst the Kurdish infant population is on a rise and Kurdistan Save the Children has put its efforts to work to provide these children with surgeries and the medical attention they need by funding the child’s surgery in hospitals in the Kurdistan region, inviting foreign medical teams to Kurdistan to perform surgeries or sending the children abroad for the same purpose.
#KSC in the year alone funded the referral and surgeries of 102 children with congenital heart defects in Kurdistan and children abroad. However, 349 children who suffer from #heart defects registered in our Health Program are still awaiting life-saving treatment.
