World Autism Awareness Day 2/4/2017, is an international day to raise awareness about autism throughout society and to encourage early diagnosis. Through a number of activities and the distribution of leaflets and posters, we aim to shine light on autism as a growing health issue and to celebrate the unique talents and skills of children with autism.
Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people. To support autistic children and their families, Kurdistan Save the Children’s Rehabilitation Center for Children with Special Educational Needs has designated a part of the center to Autism, where behavioral and speech therapists provide treatment daily.
In support of World Autism Awareness Day,
* Kurdistan Save the Children with the assistance of Sulaimani University- Primary Education College/ Special Education Department organized a seminar about Autism at Ismail Beshkchi Hall that was presented by Dr. Karim Qarachatani, Dr. Rozhdi Ali Jaff and Dr. Jamal Marif). During the event KSC’s awareness leaflets and surveys concerning Autism were handed out to students. During the event, 3 child beneficiaries of the Rehabilitation Center for Children with Special Educational Needs participated with an art exhibition that consisted of 12 paintings.
*Kurdistan Save the Children participated in an activity in support of WAAD in Erbil that was organized by Hana Center for Autism. KSC provided 100 different gifts for the children at the center.
*Within the same framework, KSC provided Hana Center- Erbil for Autism with educational and training supplies. The center consists of 45 autistic children.
