Down syndrome is one of the most common genetic disorders that affects 1 in 800 births universally regardless of racial, national or socio- economic backgrounds.
World Down Syndrome Day, the 21st of march which was selected to represent the 21st chromosome which causes down syndrome, is dedicated to raising awareness in our community about what Down syndrome is, how children affected by Down syndrome play a vital role in our community and to support their rights, involvement and welfare.

Kurdistan Save the children’s Rehabilitation Center for Children with Special Educational Needs in Raparin/ Sulaimani has a team of specialized physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists to provide children diagnosed with autism, aspergers syndrome, ADHD, Down syndrome and debilitating diseases with the care they need in an educational and safe environment.
Kurdistan Save the Children to further support the cause organized an art exhibition for 2 child beneficiaries of the Rehabilitation Center on the 19th of March 2017 at Azad Shawqi hall in Sulaimani under the title “Guli and Ale‘s artistic talents”.
It’s worth mentioning that Mrs. Hero Ibrahim Ahmed (KSC’s general director) and Mrs. Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed (co-founder of KSC) attended the gallery to support for World Down Syndrome Day and all children.
