On July 26, the Youth Activity Centre of Koya organized a poetry seminar for (Wafa Rafiq), a young aspiring poetess.

A Survey on Working Children
On July 7, KSC in cooperation with Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government started a survey to determine the number and the specificities of working children in the three big cities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq: Hawler, Sulamany, and Duhok.

Building Self-Confidence Workshop
On July 3-8, The Youth Activity Centre of Sulaimaniya delivered a workshop for 40 youths.
The workshop, designed by Ms. Soma Amin, specialist in psychology from Sweden, who delivered the course as a volunteer.

Learning ‘how to Tailoring’ courses in Koya
On July 5, the Youth Activity Centre in Koya opened a Tailoring Training Course for 60 girls. Since the course is offered in mornings and afternoons, the participants were divided in two groups of 30, according to their preference.

Awarding graduation certificates
On June 29, the Raniya Youth Activity Centre, awarded graduation certificates to 83 youths who completed a one-month course in English language.

Training Courses in English, and Arabic languages
On June 11, on the occasion of the beginning of the summer holidays the Youth Activity Centre in Darbandikhan launched two Training Courses in English, and Arabic languages.
The courses are currently running.

The International Day against Drug Abuse
On June 24, on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse, the Art Department of the Youth Activity Centre in Sulaimaniya participated in an exhibition, organized by Kurdistan Women Union, by contributing 7 paintings.

Mr. Baita Roberto held workshops as a volunteer
On June 18 - 28, Mr. Baita Roberto from Italy held some workshops as a volunteer for children and staff of (Sara, Sarshaqam, Bazyan and Chwarta) Children Cultural Centres, as well as two Child Protection Centres in Derbandikhan, and Halabja Children Cultural Centre.

International Music Day (21 June)
On the occasion of International Music Day (21 June) the Children Cultural Centres of Sara, Sarshaqam, and Sulaimaniya Children’s Music Band held various music activities in public places of Sulaimaniya city.

Sulaimaniya Youth Activity Center – Yoga Department
On June 15, 2010, Sulaimaniya Youth Activity Center – Yoga Department launched a new one - month course for 20 youth. The Yoga Department is supervised by Ms Lana Ali a specialist in yoga from UK, who works for KSC as a volunteer.

Children’s International Day Celebration
On June 1-6, 2010, on the occasion of Children’s International Day, Kurdistan Save the Children distributed toys and Papula magazine for the beneficiaries children of Sarshaqam, Sara, Baziyan, and Chwarta Children Cultural Centres.

A cochlear implant project
On June 1, International Children’s Day, KSC started a new project, in which children with congenital hearing problems or who lost hearing due to an accident will receive a cochlear implant. The project, worth US $ 300,000, is carried out in several complementary stages.

On the occasion of International Children’s Day (1 June), KSC’s Sara, Sarshaqam Children Cultural centers (Kaziwa) and KSC,s Children Music Band held some public activities at the Azady Park of Sulaimaniya city.

KCS Course in Speech Therapy
From May 10th to 13th, KSC Training Sector organized a course on speech therapy for parents of children with special needs. It was conducted by Ms. Lana Dawdi, a faculty member of the University of Sulaimany, who again volunteered to teach the course.

World Thalassemia Day (8 May)
On World Thalassemia Day (8 May) the Youth Activity Centers of Rania, held a musical party for children suffering from Thalassemia disease.

A festival for the youths of Rania
On 20, 21, 22 April 2010, the Youth Activity Centre of Rania has organized a festival for the youths of Rania, a great number of young people who visited the festival, took part in the activities.

New Year's celebration
On January 10, Sulaimaniya Youth Activity Center celebrated the New Year with various activities. It included a graphic art exhibition, athletic and music activities.

A workshop for child protection
From December 6, 2009 to May 1, 2010, Child Protection Sector at KSC will be launching a workshop to increase awareness level of families to protect its children from the outcomes of child labour.

Haircutting Course
On December 3, 2009, Sulaimaniya Youth Activity Centre concluded a hair cutting course for 21 youth.

Speech Therapy course in Hawler
On November 22-25, KSC Training Sector successfully completed a course in Speech Therapy in Hawler, conducted for 23 teachers of Hiwa, Awat, and Hana Institutes, and the Centre for the Children with Autism, who work with the children having hearing, mental and other impairments.

Conference on the Rights of Child
On November 22nd, 2009, Kurdistan Save the Children, Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations participated in a conference to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

KSC Training Project in Qaladze
On November 10-12, the Training Sector of the Kurdistan Save the Children conducted a 15-hour course in Psychological Counseling and Guidance for 17 school supervisors of primary and intermediate schools in Qaladze.

Joint Exhibition
On November 9th, 2009, a joint art exhibition was held for the Kalar and Khanaqin Youth Activity Centers at the Kalar Public Library.

On November 7-9, the Training Sector of the Kurdistan Save the Children conducted a 15-hour course in Psychological Counseling and Guidance for 26 school supervisors of primary and intermediate schools in Rania.

Austria and Italy
On November 8th, 2009, KSC sent two children (Elham Salah and Rawa Sardar) with congenital heart disease to Austria for surgical operations.

On November 6th, 2009, Halabja Youth Activity Centre held a seasonal activity for the centre’s music group.

Autism Training
Lisa Pitkeathly and Francine Brower arrived in Sulaimaniya on 24th October to train staff for the newly opened Autistic Centre.

On the occasion of 2009-2010 school year, Bazyan’s Children Cultural Center (Kaziwa) hosted an exhibition for the graphic art’s students on October 11, 2009.

Heart surgeries for Children in Italy
Recently a team of Italian cardiologists from the Tuscany region of Italy visited Kurdistan to choose more than 100 children for heart surgeries due to congenital heart disease.

On August 9-10, Training Sector of the Kurdistan Save the Children carried out a workshop for two groups of child caretakers in Sulaimany, at the KSC office, Sulaimaniya.

On August 9, 2009, Ranyia Youth Activity Center organized a song and musical party for the music course participants. A new course starts every month at this center.

on August 4, 2009, A joint exhibition was held by the Raniya Youth Activity Center in the town of Raniya for the 22 graphic art’s graduates.

Autistic center
On July 5, 2009 an Autistic center was opened by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in the city of Sulaimanyah, Iraqi Kurdistan.

On June 2, 2009, KSC office in Kirkuk opened a library for the teenager detained in Kirkuk juvenile center, many books and Magazines in both Kurdish and Arabic languages were presented in the library.

On May 24, 2009, KSC has invited the gastroenterologist Dr. Luigi Dall oglio to Kurdistan to check up children with oesophageal, nephrology and urology problem.

Using Drumming to Reclaim the Ability of Movement
The physio- and psycho-social therapists of the Children Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) in Sulaimany, Iraqi Kurdistan, have started to use drumming to assist their little patients, who are suffering from the partial paralysis of upper limbs, in reclaiming the ability to move their arms and hands.
The idea to use drumming in physio/psycho-social therapy came from the Drum Circles Leadership Facilitation Training Workshop, held in November 15-20, 2007, in Sulaimany, Iraqi Kurdistan. Two CRC physio- and psycho-social therapists, Raz Hama Gharib Ali and Nigar Kamal Mohammed, took part in that workshop, co-sponsored by Kurdistan Save the Children and ACDI VOCA Iraqi Community Action Group.
